My film ‘A Puppet Comment’ was inspired by the discussions earlier this year focused on the prohibition of biker gangs. This fear propagation, this pamphleteering, was brought into the public conscience due to an isolated incidence of violence that left a man dead. It exemplified knee jerk; it dragged a culture through the mud but for the folly of few, and foretold the potential eradication of other verified and enriching groups in an effort to protect the myth of white pickets and pleasantries.
Sometimes it feels like we’re all just scaring ourselves shitless to feel something, occupy our bored minds.
So I inverted the fear. Puppets - such antique, plush portions of innocence and entertainment. These characters ridiculed the hysteria by wondering what group was next: Politicians? Church groups? Boy Scouts?
We could probably do without the boy scouts actually. Minces.
Big thanks to Todd Murray for all his help.
